Chocolate #9 (Bust)

After looking at this product it ends up being just like any other gel product. Get the scoop below:

There’s only 15 g of CHO(Carbohydrates) in one packet whereas most energy gels/gu’s have 25-30.

This means the athlete would have to consume 2x the number of packets to get the necessary amount of CHO needed to delay the depletion of glycogen and maintain oxidation rates of CHO (60 g/hr) necessary for intense physical activity. This could be expensive

The website claims that this product has GI of 45. Remember, table sugar has a GI of 53 so its not that much different. And non-diabetic individuals do not “crash” like they suggest – that’s a myth perpetuated by the lay press.

GI is a response by an individual, not an inherent characteristic of a food; therefore, it’s highly variable.

Lastly, I would guess that most gel’s and gu’s have a GI in the 45 – 50 range so this product is not that much different.

If it tastes good, then that’s great!  Athletes will be more likely to use it. But like anything else, athletes will tire of it and want a variety of flavors.
